ANNAPOLIS, MD – The Hogan for Governor campaign today released a web video entitled, “Introducing Ben Jealous,” highlighting Democratic party leaders’ concerns about Jealous’ extreme and fiscally irresponsible platform. The video quotes newspaper reports of anonymous Democratic leaders who worry Jealous’ proposals would “scare voters,” while Rushern Baker suggests Jealous is being dishonest with voters, and Jim Shea acknowledges Jealous’ “tax and spend” policies would be a vulnerability against Governor Hogan. The video also highlights the failure of Jealous’ single-payer scheme in every state where it has been tried due to, in the words of former Vermont Democratic Governor Peter Shumlin, the tremendous “risk of economic shock.”
“Ben Jealous throws caution to the wind in pursuit of his extreme agenda,” said Hogan communications director Scott Sloofman. “His risky and irresponsible schemes would require massive middle-class tax hikes that would wreck our economy and put thousands out of work. As Marylanders learn more about the dire economic consequences of his plans, they will realize that Governor Hogan is the only candidate who can be trusted to pursue commonsense, bipartisan solutions that will grow Maryland’s economy and keep taxes in check.”
