This Saturday, Aug. 9, there will be a poker run to benefit the Hunter Dean Scott Foundation.

Registration begins at 10:30 a.m. at CJs Back Room in Lusby. Donations of $20 per bike or car and $10 per rider are requested.

Hunter Scott is a four-year-old boy who just recently had a malignant tumor removed from his brain. He will be undergoing chemotherapy for the next several months to continue to fight the cancer.

Hunterโ€™s grandfather, Rocky Russell, bought his first motorcycle, a โ€™95 Harley Davidson Softail in May of 2002. Days later, he fell 30 feet from a roof he was working on, breaking his back. Doctors said he may not be able to walk again and that he definitely would not be able to ride a motorcycle. With hard work and determination, he proved them wrong. He let his hair grow long and rides his motorcycle every chance he gets.

When his grandson, Hunter, was born in 2003, he declared he was passing down his first bike to his first grandson. Now that Hunter has been diagnosed with brain cancer, Hunterโ€™s Dad, Eric, will be riding Hunterโ€™s 95 Softail right along side of Rocky riding his own motorcycle, together, riding for Hunter.

Course stops include Green Turtle in Prince Frederick, Club 911 in Mechanicsville, Toots Bar in Hollywood and CJs Back Room in Lusby. If you would like to meet at a course stop, there will be a $10 donation requested per person at the door. There will be a 50/50 Raffle and door prizes. All proceeds will benefit the Hunter Dean Scott Foundation.

Over the course of the past month, a series of benefits have been held to raise money for the Hunter Dean Scott Foundation. A benefit event on July 19 brought in $40,000 for the foundation. On July 26, barbers at Tobyโ€™s Barbershop in Lexington Park donated their time to cut hair as a donation to the foundation, raising $4,915 in haircuts. An additional $5,000 was raised by Rocky Russell, who cut his ponytail and donated it to โ€œLocks of Love,โ€ a public non-profit organization that provides hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children in the United States and Canada under age 18 suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.

If you would like to help but are unable to attend the Poker Run, donations can be made to the Hunter Dean Scott Foundation at the PNC Bank in Solomons, or mailed to P.O. Box 289, Solomons, MD 20688.

The foundation is set up so that you may use a donation as a tax deduction. Additionally, individuals and businesses will be acknowledged via a โ€œThank Youโ€ ad in the local newspapers.
