Investigators from the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office are probing three dumpster fires in the Lexington Park area over the last three days. The most recent two were at Hunting Creek Apartments on Daisy Lane.
On April 1 at shortly before midnight Bay District firefighters were called to the apartment complex for a fire in the same dumpster reported the day before. The most recent fire apparently started in a couch that was placed next to the dumpster and then spread to the dumpster, causing $600 damage to it and $200 damage to the couch. The previous fire did not require a fire department response.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Department is assisting in the investigation.
