John Archie Duvall (Jack), of Upper Marlboro, Maryland, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2026, at the age of 94.
Born on August 5, 1932, in Washington, D.C., Jack was the beloved son of Archie E.Duvall and Helen (Hatfield) Watson.
Jack enlisted in the Army in 1952, serving two years, while stationed at Fort Hood, Texas. He said it was the best thing he ever did in his life, and was so proud to serve his Country. Jack was preceded in death by his former Wife, and mother of his children, Barbara A. Duvall.
He enjoyed a long career, working for PEPCO, as the Laboratory Supervisor at the Chalk Point Generating Station in Aquasco, Maryland. Outside of work, Jack found joy in spending time outdoors. He also enjoyed bike riding, hiking, exploring nature, collecting rocks, fossils, and embracing every opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the world around him. He also enjoyed traveling.
After retiring from PEPCO, Jack went into Real Estate, listing and selling homes. He eventually ended up working for Maryland National Capital Park And Planning Commission, at Patuxent River Park. He worked with plants and landscaping while helping throughout the Park.
While working at the Park, Jack also became the tour guide for boat tours on the Patuxent River. He would talk about the history on the river, and important events that happened in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries. Whether riding on a quiet trail or a country road, he appreciated the peace and freedom that came from being outside. Jack accepted Jesus Christ as his Savior and embraced every opportunity to enjoy the beauty of the world around him. We will miss you terribly, Dad.
Jack is survived by his children, John M. Duvall (Patricia), Paul T. Duvall, Jennifer A. Beamer (Michael), and Cecilia M. Fox. He also leaves behind seven beloved grandchildren, Alan, Amanda, Ashley, Alex, Justin, Jessica, Austin and Brandon (pre-deceased), and 7 great-grandchildren. They will forever cherish his love, guidance, and the memories they shared together. He is also survived by a brother, Bernard D. Duvall, (Thelma Jean), sisters, Susan Ryce (James), Jane E. Duvall (pre-deceased), and Elizabeth Behrens (pre-deceased).
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at Brinsfield Funeral Home in Charlotte Hall, Maryland, on Thursday, August 20th from 10:00 a.m. until noon, followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m. Interment will follow at St. Thomas Episcopal Cemetery, Upper Marlboro, Maryland. A reception will follow the burial service at Two Lions Vineyards, 12600 Croom Rd., Upper Marlboro, MD.
Jack will be remembered for his love of nature and devotion to his family. His legacy lives on in the lives he touched and the people he loved so dearly. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Condolences may be made to the family at www.brinsfieldfuneral.com.
