St. Maryโ€™s City, MDโ€”November 7, 2018 โ€” Round up the family for a visit to Historic St. Maryโ€™s City (HSMC) and experience how sugar and other sweets were incorporated into the 17th-century diet.ย ย  This hearth and home event is a livey exploration of 17th-century foodways that is sure to give you and your crew a new appreciation of modern conveniences.ย  The museumโ€™s final event of the fall season will occur on November 23 and 24 from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

At HSMC, you will be able to watch demonstrations of food preservation and preparation focusing on the use of sweets:ย  treacle, honey, fruit, and, of course sugar.ย  Discover the 17th-century versions of sugar coating something and how colonists developed their sweet tooth.ย  Take home a free recipe booklet so your family can re-create the desserts Marylandโ€™s first citizens would have enjoyed.

Special activities are included in general admission to the museum: $10.00 adult, $9.00 senior, $6.00 for children ages 6 – 18, and free for those 5 years and younger and Friends members.ย  Bring a non-perishable food item for the Southern Maryland Food Bank and enjoy a $1 discount.ย  Start your visit at the HSMC Visitor Center (18751 Hogaboom Lane).ย  Hearth and Home in Early Maryland is presented with generous support from the Historic St. Maryโ€™s City Foundation.
