First Lady Katie Oโ€™Malley released the following statement today on Facebookโ€™s launch of the “Stop Bullying: Speak Upโ€ campaign through a recent partnership with Time Warner to combat bullying through a widespread media campaign:

โ€œAs parents, Martin and I, along with Lt. Governor Brown, are committed to addressing all forms of bullying in Maryland. Iโ€™d like to applaud Facebook and Time Warner for joining in the effort and partnering together to take on the important issue of cyberbullying.

โ€œWith the Internet, social networks and cell phones, the face of bullying has changed. The abuse no longer stops at the school yard, but bullies now have access to their victims 24 hours a day and the results can last a lifetime.ย

โ€œWe look forward to working with organizations like Facebook and Time Warner to combat cyberbullying. Together, we can work to continue to raise awareness and implement effective policies to stop the abuse in our schools, communities and online.

โ€œWe can and we must do all we can to stand up against bullying. It starts with each of us.โ€
