The FOX 5 morning news was broadcast live from Leonardtown July 9, as part of their Hometown Fridays in July segments.ย The Leonardtown Square and Wharf bustled with residents eager to meet Allison Seymour, Tucker Barnes, Holly Morris and Tony Perkins and share their love of the town and St. Mary’s County.
Leonardtown’s Administrator Laschelle McKay has been busy working with the FOX 5 Morning News team, but told TheBAYNET.com, “It was fun.” She said a lot of thought was put into giving “a well-rounded glimpse of Leonardtown” to the morning show’s many viewers.
The hosts interviewed residents and highlightedย Leonardtown’s history and many great reasons to visit.ย Holly Morris hung out at theย Wharfย for kayaking courtesy of McIntosh Run Outfitters, a boat ride compliments of Guy Marine, a yoga session by the water and a look at the Leonardtown Winery and local agriculture market.ย ย In the square, the amazing food, music, art, and attractions were spotlighted by Seymour and Chenevey and Tony Perkins delivered weather updates from various downtownย spots.
A “Need for Speed” segment featuredย popular localย motor sports attractions, with young drag racers withย theย Maryland International Racewayย and participants of the St. Mary’s County National Lawnmower Races.
The FOX 5 crew stayed at the local Executive Inn and dined at Thompson’s Corner Kafe during their visit to Leonardtown.
Leonardtown Councilwoman Leslie Roberts said, “We are proud and thrilled they came down here,” adding “We couldn’t have asked for better advertising for the town and county.”ย
