Prince Frederick, MD ย – The Calvert County Liquor board levied a $250 fine on a local store for a recent sale of alcohol to a minor. The clerk who admitted to conducting the transaction also received a stern warning that such actions could have resulted in criminal charges.

The matter regarding the sale to a minor by a clerk at Ken-Mar Liquors of Prince Frederick was dealt with during the boardโ€™s March 24 meeting. โ€œI thought he was one of our regulars,โ€ said the clerk, who identified herself to the board as Peggy Miller. She apologized to the board for the lapse.

Liquor Board Member Beth Swoap told the clerk sales of alcohol to minors are subject to $1,000 fines and/or one year in jail.

โ€œYou canโ€™t go by just looking at the person,โ€ said Board Member Ruth Reid, stressing the need to card every customer.

Swoap made the motion to fine Ken-Mar Liquors $250 and suspend the storeโ€™s license for three days. The suspension will be held in abeyance and if the store has no other violations for a year the suspension will be expunged. The board approved the motion unanimously.
