Claude Arnold “Johnny” Johnson, 92, of California, MD died April 26, 2006 in California, MD. Born March 1, 1914 in Robbinsville, NC, he was the son of the late William Jefferson and Lula Edwards Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife Agnes Winifred Johnson on July 31, 2003, whom he married in Fredericksburg, VA on December 23, 1932. He is survived by his children Carl Herbert Johnson of FL, Victor Lee Johnson and Betty June Johnson both of MD; 8 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his son William Richard Johnson and his brother Carl O. Johnson. Mr. Johnson moved to St. Mary’s County in 1947 from Michigan. He was employed as a pipefitter for the federal government for 27 years until his retirement in 1962. He also served in the U.S. Navy for 4 years, from October 8, 1929 until October 8, 1933. His duty stations included the U.S. Naval Training Station, Great Lakes, IL; U.S.S. New Mexico; U.S.S. Florida; U.S. Naval Hospital, League Island, PA; U.S. Naval Proving Grounds, Dahlgren, VA and the U.S. Naval Hospital, Washington, D.C. The family received friends on Friday, April 28, 2006 in the Mattingley-Gardiner Funeral Home, from 6:00 PM รข?? 8:00 PM. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2006 in the Funeral Home Chapel with Deacon Bill Nickerson officiating. Interment will follow in Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Pallbearers will be Michael Lewis, David Knott, Adam Alls, Billy Morgan, John Morgan and John Pearson. Contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary’s, P.O. Box 625, Leonardtown, MD 20650.
