A member of the Patuxent River Naval Air Station military police force was found dead at the bottom of a swimming pool early Thursday morning.
A worker who was opening the drill hall facility shortly after 5 a.m. spotted the manโs body in the pool and contacted officials, John Romer, Pax River spokesman, told The Bay Net this morning.
There were no immediate signs of foul play, Romer confirmed, and the man was wearing a swim suit.
Although the incident occurred nearly 30 hours ago at the time of this report, the manโs identity and age are not allowed to be released under U.S. Department of Defense guidelines, Romer said, until 24 hours after the family is contacted and notified.
The man worked the Patuxent River Master at Arms Team, a military police force, and apparently had clearance to be inside the building.
The Naval Criminal Investigative Service based out of Washington is investigating the incident. The body will be undergoing and autopsy at Armed Forces Institute of Pathology.
