Margaret Ann Harding (91) passed away on August 18, 2026 at the Hospice House of Saint Mary’s. She was born on January 26, 1935 in Washington D.C. but moved to Saint Mary’s County at a young age. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Leonard Harding, Jr., parents, Leonard and Margaret Guy (nee Bowles), and her sister Shirley Wood (nee Guy).
Margaret Ann graduated from Margaret Brent High School in June, 1953. She worked as a bank teller, school bus driver, seamstress, and Christmas card salesperson. Together with her husband, Leonard, they founded the company, Leonard Harding, Jr. Electrical Contractor, in January 1966 and operated the company for 24 years, providing electrical contracting services throughout Southern Maryland and providing employment and benefits to many employees during these years. They had the reputation of being an honest business, and a caring employer, providing vacation time, health insurance, and retirement benefits while many similar employers did not.
Margaret Ann was married to Leonard for 60+ years and is survived by daughters Margaret (Peggy) Haskin (Donald), Barbara White (Billy), Rebecca (Becky) Spitzgo (Bill), and Son Frederick L. Harding, III (Debbie). She is also survived by her grandchildren: Matthew Haskin (Kathryn), Andrew Beal (Gaby), Daniel Beal (Nahir), Michael Haskin (Stacey), Kimberly Gravely, Frederick L. Harding, IV (Amber), and Marissa Emeigh. Step Grandchildren: Will Spitzgo, Emily Stevens (Brandon), Bryan Wells, and Jessica Buckmaster (Jim), as well 17 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by her brother Lenny Guy (Betty Jean).
Margaret Ann was a loving wife, friend, mom, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. All of her “kids” loved spending time with “Gran”. She had a love of the water, enjoying fishing, crabbing and especially picking and eating crabs. Leonard and Margaret Ann shared a lifelong dream to live on the water, which they did for many years in Ridge, MD, happily and freely sharing their home with family. They loved entertaining their family in “Ridge”. She also enjoyed travel, playing cards, bowling, bingo, and pin shuffle.
Margret Ann loved competition. She played women’s’ softball throughout her life including the Senior Olympics, only stopping in her 80’s when her health no longer allowed her to participate. She is a member of the Saint Mary’s Women’s Softball Hall of Fame and the Maryland Softball Hall of Fame. She assisted in establishing the Women’s Softball League in Saint Mary’s County. She followed professional baseball and football and was always ready for a card game, whether it was with friends, strangers, family, or grandkids. She was an intense competitor who loved life and family.
Family will receive friends for a visitation on Monday, August 24, 2026, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm with Prayers beginning at 6:30pm at Brinsfield Funeral Home, 22955 Hollywood Rd. Leonardtown, MD 20650. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at 11:00am at St. John Francis Regis Catholic Church, 43950 St Johns Rd. Hollywood, MD 20636. Interment will be private.
Pall Bearers will be her grandchildren: Matthew Haskin, Andrew Beal, Daniel Beal, Kimberly Gravely, Michael Haskin, William Spitzgo, and Frederick L. Harding, IV.
