The Calvert Marine Museum is please to invite all to enjoy Sea Chanteys and Songs of the Sea, presented by well known maritime musician, Bob Zentz, on January 2 at 6:30 p.m. in the museum auditorium.

Zentz is a singer of songs old and new about people, places, and times gone by. He accompanies himself on dozens of the usual, and unusual folk instruments. He is an accomplished teller of the tales behind the songs, and an acknowledged scholar of the evolution of home-made music and always entertaining.
Zentzโ six albums span the genres of folk, traditional, Celtic and maritime music and beyond, and his recordings also appear on other artist compilations.ย As a songwriter, he is celebrated by fans and peers alike; dozens of performers have covered his original compositions, three of which have been published in “Rise Up Singing,” Sing Out Magazine’s award-winning community songbook.
At the concert, with assistance from Jackie Waymire, Zentz will lead a Sea Chantey and โFoo Fooโ Band Workshop from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for maritime musician enthusiasts. The free concert, first in the First Free Friday Heritage Concert Series, is sponsored by the Southern Maryland Heritage Area Consortium.
On Thursday, February 26, the Calvert Marine Museum presents “An Evening With Joe Stead” at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium. Stead is one of Great Britainโs most well known folk musicians, collectors, teachers, recorders, and performers. He started singing professionally in 1966, has played all the major festivals in Great Britain, and has toured America multiple times.

Stead is the founding member of Kimberโs Men, a highly acclaimed sea Chantey group in England, the group has made two recordings: โDonโt Take The Heroesโ and โSee You When the Sun Goes Down.โ Stead also recorded four solo albums including โValparaiso Round the Horn: A Journey in Songโ released in 2000.
