A Hughesville man died Friday evening as the result of injuries sustained when his motorcycle ran into a car at the Brandywine Road/Carriage Crossing Lane intersection. According to the Maryland State Police, Jason Canterbury, 32, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

Police report that Canterbury was driving a 1997 Honda motorcycle that was traveling northbound on Brandywine Road when it struck on the right rear side panel a 1995 Mercedes car driven by Grace Minus, 25, of Alexandria, VA that was making a left turn onto Carriage Crossing Road. Debris from the collision then struck a third vehicle, a 2002 PT Cruiser driven by Doris Swiderski, 59, of Mechanicsville.

Neither Minus nor Swiderski required transportation by EMS personnel. Two passengers in the Minus car, an adult and two-year-old child, also did not require transportation.

According to the Maryland State Police the investigation into the accident is still open. Anyone who witnessed the accident is requested to contact Cpl. Zimmerman of the Maryland State Police CRASH Team at 301-392-1231 or TFC Galgan at 301-392-1200, extension 3312.

Brandywine Road was temporarily shut down for the purpose of the investigation with the assistance of State Highway Administration. The mishap occurred at 8:26 p.m. Friday and the roadway was reopened at 1 a.m. Saturday.
