Upper Marlboro, MD – On April 28 at approximately 12:04 a.m., Maryland State Police (MSP) troopers were dispatch to southbound Route 301(Crain Highway) at Village Drive for a single-vehicle crash with airbags deployed. When troopers arrived at the scene they observed a red Dodge Challenger with heavy damage, on the southbound portion of Crain Highway facing west. Contact with EMS was made and Troopers were advised the driver—identified as Jonathan Javoria Griffin, 34—was pronounced deceased on scene at 12:18 a.m. Requests were made for the MSP Reconstruction Team and the Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office. The northbound and southbound portion of Crain Highway from Marlboro Pike to Village Drive was closed until the investigation was completed. Debris from the severe collision was cast into the northbound lanes. All lanes were reopened at 3:20 a.m. There was no effect to traffic as it was being diverted around the scene and the traffic was very light due to the hour. 

According to the MSP, Griffin was a member of the Navy, currently assigned to Ft. Meade, NSA.
