La Plata, MD – On January 9th at approximately 11:30 P.M., Corporal Michael Payne was on patrol in the area of the 100 block of Charles Street when he noticed an individual who had no place to shelter for the night. With the temperature predicted to be well below freezing local shelters were found to be at capacity. Corporal Payne, at his own expense, transported the individual to a local hotel to ensure they had a safe and warm place to shelter from bitter cold.
