Maryland State police aviation command Trooper

PORT REPUBLIC, Md. — One person was flown to a trauma center Wednesday following a single-vehicle crash on southbound Route 4 near Broomes Island Road in Port Republic.

Emergency crews were dispatched around 11:27 a.m. on Sept. 2 for a reported crash involving a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree.

One occupant was injured but was not trapped or pinned inside the vehicle. The patient was out of the vehicle when first responders arrived.

A Maryland State Police helicopter was requested due to the seriousness of the injuries.

The patient was flown to the UM Capital Region Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
