The Calvert County Board of Education needs six parents of elementary students and three parents of middle school students to serve on a committee to study the issues surrounding student transfers in Calvert County Public Schools. ย

The Board of Education and the Superintendent will use the information gathered by the committee to revise the current student transfer policy and procedure.ย

Parents will be chosen through a random selection process which ensures representation from a range of school attendance areas and includes parents whose children attend their regular home school as well as those whose children have received a transfer to attend a school other than their home school. ย

The committee is charged with soliciting community input and researching and reporting on the wide variety of issues surrounding student transfers in Calvert County Public Schools. The committee will accept written testimony and hold six evening public hearings during August, September, and October, 2010.ย  Findings will be reported to the Board of Education in late October.

Committee members must be willing to commit a significant amount of time to the committeeโ€™s work from May through October, 2010.ย  Committee members must attend the six evening public hearing plus evening committee meetings.ย  ย

Parents who are interested in serving on the committee must submit an application by Tuesday, April 27, 2010.ย  Applications are available in each of the Calvert County public elementary and middle schools and on the Calvert County Public Schools website at www.calvertnet.k12.md.us.ย
