On July 5, the Maryland Board of Public Works announced Prince Georges County was approved for โ€œProgram Open Spaceโ€ grants totaling $1.5, for four projects and two property purchases.

ย The county was awarded $396,200 for the property acquisition of the Prospect Hill Neighborhood Playground in Glenn Dale. The funds will be used to purchase 4.449 acres of wooded land in two parcels, which will provide open space in a rapidly developing area of the county.

The other land acquisition money was $239,530 for the purchase of 18.91 additional acres for the existing 1,434-acre Piscataway Stream Valley Park in Accokeek. The park is located in southern Prince Georgeโ€™s County and extends from the Potomac River east to Route 301.

The North Barnaby Aquatic Center was awarded $75,000 for renovations including the demolition of a portion of the pool deck, modification of the existing pool and installation of new water pipes and water features. The J. Franklin Bourne Aquatic Center will receive $300,000 for similar renovations. In addition, shade structures on new concrete pads and water spray features will be constructed.

The Heather Hills Neighborhood Park School was awarded $75,000 to install new school-age and pre-school structures at the schoolโ€™s playground.

Fort Washington Forest Community Park School Center will receive $418,000 to construct a 22,000 square foot single-story community center adjacent to Fort Washington Forest Elementary School.
