Pomfret, MD – Charles County Public Schools officials report that the Robert D. Stethem Education Center was temporarily evacuated Thursday morning, Feb. 18 after a teacher and student reported feeling sick, raising concerns that there might be a carbon monoxide leak in the building.

School system spokeswoman Shelley Mackey told The BayNet fire, rescue and emergency medical personnel were dispatched to the school in Pomfret around 10 a.m. and recommended the evacuation. Responders then conducted tests throughout the building and determined there was no carbon monoxide. The students, who were sent to a nearby building, have since returned to the center.

The center has an enrollment of approximately 50 students from grades six through 12 who receive career and technology training.

Mackey reported around 1 p.m. that no further problems have been experienced at the school.
