It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Shelley Anne Monson, of Lexington Park, Maryland, who passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family, after a courageous battle with lung cancer. Her kindness, strength, and unwavering love touched the lives of everyone who knew her.
Shelley was born on May 21, 1962, in Ohio. As a young girl, she moved with her family to Seattle, Washington, where she was raised and built a life centered on family, hard work, and lasting friendships. She later worked at JR Mailing Services, a company founded by her mother, where she was known for her dedication, reliability, and caring nature.
In 2003, Shelley met the love of her life, Jeffery Monson. Their connection was immediate, and they were married on January 18, 2004. Later that year, Shelley and Jeffery moved to Lexington Park, Maryland, where they built their home and shared the next 22 years together. Lexington Park became the place where Shelley nurtured lifelong friendships, tended her beautiful gardens, and filled her home with warmth, laughter, and love.
Shelley lived a life defined by compassion, generosity, and grace. She had a creative spirit and found joy in arts and crafts, crocheting, and gardening. She had an extraordinary green thumb and could bring beauty and life to any garden or houseplant she cared for. Whether she was creating something with her hands or tending to her flowers, Shelley poured love into everything she did.
More than anything, Shelley treasured her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, daughter, and friend who always put the people she loved first. Her greatest happiness came from watching her family grow and celebrating their accomplishments while offering unwavering love and encouragement.
Even during her battle with lung cancer, Shelley faced each day with remarkable courage, dignity, and determination. She never let her illness define her. Instead, she continued to give of herself, offering kindness, encouragement, and love to those around her until the very end.
Shelley’s generosity knew no bounds. She freely gave her time, love, and resources to anyone in need, never expecting anything in return. Her warm smile, compassionate heart, and selfless nature made everyone around her feel welcomed and valued. She was truly one of a kind. Those fortunate enough to know her will remember her for her gentle spirit, quiet strength, and the way she made everyone feel like family.
Shelley is lovingly survived by her devoted husband, Jeffery Monson; her children, Jessica Taylor and Charles Romero; her beloved grandchildren, John Taylor, Julia Taylor, Jade Taylor, Joanna Taylor, and Luca Romero; her siblings, Matthew Romack and Nora Romack; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Janet Romack; her brothers, Michael Romack and Mark Romack; and her beloved granddaughter, Josephine Taylor, whose memories she carried close to her heart.
While our hearts are broken by her passing, we take comfort in the countless memories she leaves behind. Her love will continue to bloom in every flower garden she inspired, every handmade creation that carries her touch, and every act of kindness shared in her memory. Shelley’s legacy is one of compassion, generosity, resilience, and unconditional love, and it will live on through her family and all who were blessed to know her.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Family and friends are invited to gather to celebrate Shelley’s life, share memories, and honor the remarkable woman she was. Details regarding the date and location will be shared once finalized.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the physicians, nurses, caregivers, family members, and friends who supported Shelley throughout her courageous journey. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lung Cancer Foundation of America in Shelley’s memory.
