St. Mary’s Ryken proudly announces the new Xaverian Brothers Sponsored School (XBSS) Stewards. The students were inducted on December 3 during the Mass to celebrate the patron of the Xaverian Brothers Congregation, St. Francis Xavier:

Joseph Brown of Hollywood., Md; Kayla Collins of Prince Frederick, Md.; Adriana Facchina of Newburg, Md.; Christopher Feist of California, Md.; Christopher Matthias of Leonardtown, Md.; Gabrielle Moore of Lusby, Md.; Kendall Murphy of Port Tobacco, Md.; Emily Rawson of Waldorf, Md.; Stephen Schwartz of Leonardtown, Md.; Thomas Showalter of Huntingtown, Md.; and Madisson Wood of Mechanicsville, Md.

St. Mary’s Ryken is one of 13 XBSS schools in the United States and each school selects a group of students in their junior year to be the schools’ spiritual, peer ministers. The stewards serve during their senior year as well, leading community service activities in both the school and the local communities; writing and leading the school prayer each morning; and leading Campus Ministry programs.

Students had to submit an application to be considered and were selected based on this application, essay, interview, teacher recommendation, and community service activities. The group will represent St. Mary’s Ryken at the annual XBSS retreat in Connecticut in March.

St. Mary’s Ryken is a Catholic, coeducational, college preparatory high school sponsored by the Xaverian Brothers and dedicated to individualized student growth. Each year, approximately 99% of graduates go on to college and the Class of 2014 earned $12.7 million in scholarships. Students come from many different counties across the region including Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, King George, Prince George’s and St. Mary’s counties.
