UPPER MARLBORO, Md. – Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Tara H. Jackson announced today that 33-year-old Talecka C. Brown has been sentenced to 50 years in prison after being convicted of attempted first-degree murder, first-degree child abuse, first-degree assault, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony related to the shooting of her then 13-year-old daughter.
In September 2024, Brown got into an argument with her daughter and shot her in the back of the neck.
“Today’s sentence reflects the severity of this unimaginable act and the harm inflicted upon this child who deserved nothing but love, protection, and care from her mother.” said State’s Attorney Jackson. “No child should ever have to endure the pain, fear, and trauma this young lady experienced. I am grateful to our prosecutors and law enforcement partners for their efforts in ensuring justice was served. My office remains committed to protecting victims, holding offenders accountable, and pursuing justice for our community, especially when it comes to protecting our children.”
This tragic story is another example of the state in which the death of a child frequently occurs in this county, & state. It surely seems like this was a case that was not properly intervened for child abuse. There needs to be more investigating and reporting when a child is at risk. These type of cases are never justified for the sometimes fatality caused by family members’ crimes against children. This County needs to do better. Certainly the communities are better than this. Sadly though child abuse is rampantly happening across the USA as well.
No details. Was the 13yr old acting out? Did she have a history of acting out? Was the woman threatened? Was the kid shot just because Mom wasn’t happy? Did either have a history of problems?
