Westlake High School in Waldorf plans to dedicate its stadium in memory of its first principal, Dr. John H. Cox.

A dedication ceremony for the Dr. John H. Cox Stadium is set for Thursday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m.

During his 37-year career with the Charles County Public Schools, Cox served as the assistant superintendent of instruction, high school and middle school principal, vice principal, teacher and coach.

He was appointed principal at Westlake in 1992 and was essential in the opening of the school.

He served as principal at Westlake until 1997 when he was chosen as an assistant superintendent.

Cox passed away on Oct. 1, 2007.

The dedication is open to the public.
