Prince Frederick MD Turkey Trot 2016
Prince Frederick, MD – The ungodly hour five kilometer (K) race known as “Turkey Trot” brought out the running and walking enthusiasts along with several dog-walkers and many others who appeared ready for a costume party. The race, now in its fifth year, started and finished at Arc of Southern Maryland in Prince Frederick Thursday, Nov. 24.

“We do it because we believe in Project ECHO,” race organizers stated on the event page. Project ECHO (Ecumenical Council of Calvert County) is a 501(c) 3 non-profit task force started nearly a quarter of a century ago to address the county’s rising homeless problem.
Project ECHO officials reported the day before Thanksgiving that nearly 700 people had preregistered for the Turkey Trot. The huge crowd began the chip-timed dash at 7 a.m.

Crossing the finish line first was Turner Chaundy, 19, whose time was 15 minutes and 52 seconds. Close behind was Jordan Blankenship, also 19, who finished the race in 15 minutes and 54 seconds. The third place finisher, Mark Hyatt, logged a time of 15 minutes and 59 seconds. The top female finisher was Anna Staats, whose time was 19 minutes and 31 seconds. Staats was followed closely by Christina Labounty, 29, who ran a time of 19 minutes and 34 seconds.
