North Point Football Forfeits Week 1 Game Against McDonogh After Violation

WALDORF, Md. — North Point High School’s varsity football team will forfeit its Week 1 game against Maurice J. McDonough High School following a violation of Maryland regulations governing out-of-season athletic participation, according to a letter from head coach Bill Condo sent to the program’s families.

The forfeiture comes as the Eagles begin the 2026 season and will result in a loss being recorded against North Point.

According to Condo, the violation involved participation in a non-school team setting that exceeded the allowable 80% threshold of returning players while contracted coaches were involved during a restricted period outside the defined football season.

Condo said that, as North Point’s head coach within Charles County Public Schools (CCPS), he is responsible for ensuring the program complies with regulations established by the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association, CCPS and the Code of Maryland Regulations.

In his letter, Condo described the incident as a “lapse of judgment and oversight” that failed to meet those expectations.

The Eagles were informed of the forfeiture following practice, according to Condo.

Despite the setback, Condo urged players and families to remain focused on the remainder of the season and the culture the coaching staff has worked to build at North Point.

“Although this may seem like a setback to start our season, we have full confidence in our team’s resiliency to respond accordingly,” Condo wrote.

Condo said the program remains committed to providing its players with a positive experience while emphasizing qualities such as discipline, accountability, work ethic and teamwork.

He also credited the players for helping maintain the program’s culture, writing that their commitment, hard work and desire to succeed continue to inspire the coaching staff.

Condo said the Eagles are still working toward their goal of competing for a state championship in December.

For North Point, the focus now shifts to the remainder of the schedule as the Eagles attempt to move past the forfeiture and continue their pursuit of a state championship.

Condo closed his letter by thanking North Point families for their continued support of the program.
