BALTIMORE, Md. — Two horses died at the Pimlico Race Course earlier today, casting a dark cloud over the 141st Preakness Stakes.

The first horse, Homeboykris, died suddenly after collapsing after the opening race of the day. The cause of death is believed to be cardiovascular collapse.

The other deceased horse, Pramedya, stumbled around the turn and — along with jockey Daniel Centeno — tumbled violently to the ground. The horse was euthanized on the track after breaking a bone while Centeno was taken away in an ambulance with a broken right collarbone.
