On July 3, between the hours of 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., Senior Deputies First Class Emory Johnson and D. Ross conducted a “Cops in Shops” operation at Hal’s Deli and County Liquors in Lexington Park.

Three subjects were checked for proper identification and were of legal age to purchase alcoholic beverages. John Henry Janifer, 28 of Nanjemoy, was cited for consuming an alcoholic beverage in an outside open area.

“Cops in Shops” is an undercover operation in which police officers in plain clothing pose as customers or store employees in order to detect under aged persons attempting to purchase and or using false identifications to obtain alcoholic beverages.

“Cops in Shops” is sponsored in part by the Century Council and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
