Solomons, MD – Calvert County authorities confirm an unidentified man jumped off the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge Saturday afternoon, Jan. 19. A spokesman for the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office reported the person who leapt from the span landed in a parking lot and was seriously injured. The individual was ground-transported to University of Maryland Prince George’s Hospital Center. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. The bridge was closed for approximately one hour while authorities conducted an initial investigation.

The incident remains under investigation and the individual’s name has not been released.

In its 41-year history, several people have jumped off the Governor Thomas Johnson Bridge and a few have survived the leap. Last July 3 and group of motorists stopped their vehicles, got out and prevented a distraught 18-year-old man from jumping.
