Mechanicsville, MD – A woman who was burned in a fire that occurred Sunday evening, Sept. 20 in St. Mary’s County remains hospitalized, state authorities reported. According to the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, the victim is identified as Evaughn Lennon, 65 of Mechanicsville.

The fire was reported at 7:19 p.m. by the owner of the one-story, single family house on Barnes Court in Mechanicsville. Over 40 firefighters from Hollywood, Bay District, Leonardtown, Mechanicsville, Seventh District and Hughesville were dispatched to

the one-alarm blaze. Crews brought the flames under control in 30 minutes.
“The accidental fire was the result of a candle being left unattended,” stated Dfm. Melissa Decker.

Lennon was flown by Maryland State Police Trooper 7 to MedStar Washington Hospital Center

Damage to the house is estimated at $250,000.

The American Red Cross is assisting the home’s other occupant.

Oakville, MD.— Sept, 20 at approximately 7:34 p.m., a house fire was reported on Barnes Court in Oakville. Police arrived on the scene to find a elderly female with second-degree burns. Emergency Medical Services arrived and began patient care

The incident is being investigated by the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office.  

The injured woman has not been identified.
