CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. – An accidental fire destroyed a van in Chesapeake Beach in the early hours of Thursday, May 24. Around 12:14 a.m., units from the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department responded to the 5300 block of Breezy Point Road, Chesapeake Beach for the report of a fire.
Upon arrival, units discovered a 2003 Chevrolet Van with fire through out the vehicle. Firefighters quickly doused the flames and had the scene under control in 10 minutes.
Further investigation revealed that a neighbor heard the alarm sounding on the vehicle and notified the owner. The owner reset the alarm only to have it activate again. The owner then noticed a fire under the hood of the vehicle. The owner attempted to extinguish the fire and then called 9-1-1. The cause of the fire was deemed to be accidental causing an estimated $1,000 in damage.
