Bel Alton, MD— On Feb.11, the Charles County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Enforcement Section and EST, executed a search and seizure warrant at the Relax Inn Room 109.
Upon entry into the room, the defendant, Derwin L. Carroll, 30, of Newburg, was located by police. Once the room was secured a search ensued. Detectives recovered 133 individually packaged quantities of crack cocaine inside the room. According to charging documents, “the crack cocaine was individually packaged inside of small blue, glassine baggies.”
Detectives subjected a small portion of the crack cocaine to a chemical field test. The test resulted in a color change positive for the presence of cocaine. “The estimated street value of the crack cocaine is approximately $5,600,” according to charging documents.
Carroll was placed under arrest and transported to the Charles County Detention Center where he was charged with CDS possession with intent to distribute narcotics and CDS possession, not marijuana.
Carroll has a tentative preliminary hearing scheduled for March 9 at the Charles County District Court. Carroll faces a maximum jail sentence of 24 years and/or a maximum fine of $50,000.
