
Sherman Stewart
Park Hall, MD— On August 31, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mushchetteย responded to Point Lookout Road in the area of Park Hall in reference to an assault in progress.ย
The complainant observed her mother in a verbal argument as a passenger in a vehicle with the defendant, who was identified as Sherman Stewart, 30 of Park Hall, driving the vehicle.ย
The complainant advised Stewart parked at the residence and the argument continued. The complainant observed Stewart strike the victim with a closed fist in her arm.
The victim demanded the complainant go inside the residence at which time she did, however, she continued to watch from the door. She observed Stewart drive off erratically with the victim in the passenger’s seat.
The victim advised she attemptedย to grab her purse from the vehicle after Stewart struck her in the arm, however, Stewart pulled off with her inside and the door open causing one of her sandals to fall in the parking lot.
The victim stated, “it was either jump out and get hurt or just ride,” according to charging documents.
She (victim) advised Stewart drove northbound on Point Lookout Road and after approximately one-half mile from the residence she demanded Stewart stop the vehicle to let her out. She (victim) advised Stewart refused, continuing to drive and yell at her.
Sergeant Moritz of the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office activated his vehicle’s emergency equipment and initiated a traffic stop. Moritz detained Stewart. After reading his Miranda Rights Stewart refused to answer any questions in reference the incident.
Stewart was arrested and transported to the St.Mary’s County Detention Center, where he as charged with second-degree assault and falseย imprisonment.ย
At this time Stewart does not have a scheduled court appearance. Stewart facesย a maximum jail sentence of 10 years and/or a maximum fine of $2,500.ย
