Melissa Jo Bartholomew

Bushwood, MD—  On June 16, St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Lawrence responded to Bitsys Way in Bushwood for the reported assault. 

Lawrence arrived on the scene and made contact with the victim, who advised her sister came at her with a steak knife. The suspect was identified as Melissa Jo Bartholomew, 44 of Bushwood. According to charging documents, “the victim believed Bartholomew was going to stab her with the knife.” 

A witness at the scene was able to take the knife away from Bartholomew and contact the police. The same witness advised, “Bartholomew was standing only a few feet from the victim. Bartholomew clinched the knife tight and was shaking,” according to charging documents. 

Bartholomew was transported to the St. Mary’s County Detention Center and charged with two counts of first-degree assault  and two counts of second-degree assault.

Bartholomew has a tentative preliminary hearing scheduled for July 21 in District Court. Bartholomew faces a maximum jail sentence of 70 years and/or a maximum fine of $5,000.
