A controlled-burn reportedly got out of hand on Wednesday afternoon in Lexington Park, requiring firefighters to respond and stop the spreading fire.
Bay District Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched at 1:05 p.m. to the area of Pegg Lane near Pegg Road. By the time firefighters arrived the fire had spread over roughly a half acre and was threatening a house.
While the brush was still smoldering, a reported fire in Catamaran’s restaurant in Solomon’s Island drew trucks from Bay District and other St. Mary’s County fire companies.
Distant fire companies were shortly called off, as firefighters at the restaurant took care of a reportedly small kitchen fire.
