St. Leonard, MD –ย State investigators reported that a fire that destroyed a house in Calvert County Saturday evening, June 25 was sparked outside the home by discarded smoking materials, which was tossed into some adjacent shrubbery.
According to the Maryland State Fire Marshalโs Office, the blaze on Aralia Court in St. Leonard was discovered by two of the homeโs occupants around 7:15 p.m. Twenty-five firefighters were dispatched to the one-alarm blaze. Two firefighters sustained minor injuries. They were taken to a hospital and treated. The homeownerโs cat perished in the fire.
โThe occupants of the house were alerted to the fire in its early stages and were able to escape without injury and then called 911,โ the fire marshalโs report stated. โThe fire quickly spread from the outside and destroyed the house before it was brought under control by responding units. They [occupants] were displaced as a result of the fire and are being assisted by the American Red Cross and family, and friends.โ
Damage to the home and its contents is estimated at $300,000. State officials identified the homeowner as Michael Sean Kelley.

St. Leonard, MD – Two firefighters sustained minor injuries fighting a house fire in Calvert County Saturday evening, June 25, local fire officials reported. The blaze erupted around 7 p.m., causing heavy damage to a home on Aralia Avenue in St. Leonard.
According to St. Leonard Volunteer Fire Department (Company 7) Safety Officer Norman Bauer, crews arrived to find the two-story foyer house with fire throughout the second floor and through the roof. ย Bauer reported crews initially entered the home’s front door but were forced to back out.
The two injured firefighters were taken to a hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported as a result of the blaze.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office is conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
St. Leonard, MD (7:36 p.m.) –ย A working house fire has been reported on the 6700 block of Aralia Avenue in St. Leonard, Maryland. The two-story house has fire showing from the outside of the house.
After arriving on the scene, firefighters found a home fully engulfed in flames, and had to evacuate the building due to collapse. Units regrouped and got the fire under control at approximately 8:40 p.m.
