PRINCE FREDERICK, Md. — On May 9, Calvert County residents can join a very special event — a kitten shower.

This unique event will take place on Saturday, May 9, from 12-2 p.m. Like many shelters across the county, Calvert County’s Linda L. Kelley Animal Shelter already has some kittens in their care. The shower invites residents and pet foster families to the shelter to learn how to foster animals, adopt a pet and support the animal shelter. This is a family-friendly event that will connect residents with Calvert County Animal Shelter programs and services while offering the opportunity to ask questions about fostering and adoption.

While the kittens at the shelter are currently too young to be adopted, many of their furry friends at the shelter are ready to go home with new families. Several of the kittens also made an appearance at the most recent Board of County Commissioners meeting to drum up excitement for the shower and raise awareness for the shelter.

In addition to the shower event, the shelter is encouraging donations through their Amazon registry. Some of the most needed items are:

  • KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer)
  • Kitten Baby Bottles
  • Canned Kitten Food
  • Dry Kitten Food
  • Non-clumping kitty litter
  • Heating Pads
  • Blankets/towels
  • Potty Pads
  • Pet Safe Wipes

The shelter says they can also use 3-cc syringes, Karo syrup, kitchen scales, small/shallow litter pans, reusable totes, easy-to-clean toys, food and water bowls, cat beds, replacement nipples for bottles.

“Kitten season” is well-known in the rescue community, and refers to the time of year when kittens are born and shelters tend to be busiest; peak kitten season is from April to July.

If you can’t make the shower, donations can be dropped off at the shelter, located at 5055 Hallowing Point Road in Prince Frederick. Donation hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
