CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A working smoke alarm helped two residents escape safely from a house fire Saturday night, May 31, 2025, in the 4000 block of Summer City Boulevard.
The fire broke out around 8:55 p.m. in a one-story, single-family home. Crews from the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find flames showing from a bedroom window. All occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Fifty firefighters responded and brought the single-alarm fire under control in 20 minutes. The fire was contained to the bedroom, with only minor extension into the hallway.
Damage is estimated at $125,000 to the structure and $25,000 to contents. No injuries were reported. The two displaced residents are receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.

Investigators with the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office said the fire is not suspicious and remains under investigation.
Authorities said the smoke alarm, a closed bedroom door, and the residents’ quick evacuation were key to limiting the damage and preventing injury.
