CHESAPEAKE BEACH, Md. — A working smoke alarm helped two residents escape safely from a house fire Saturday night, May 31, 2025, in the 4000 block of Summer City Boulevard.

The fire broke out around 8:55 p.m. in a one-story, single-family home. Crews from the North Beach Volunteer Fire Department arrived to find flames showing from a bedroom window. All occupants had evacuated before firefighters arrived.

Authorities said the smoke alarm, a closed bedroom door, and the residents’ quick evacuation were key to limiting the damage and preventing injury.
