On June 23 at 8:51 p.m., officers responded to the area of Hamilton Road and Shearwater Drive in Waldorf for the report of suspicious activity.
A motorist notified officers that he was travelling in the area when he observed headlights flashing from a vehicle behind him.
The motorist pulled over because he thought he was being stopped by officers. The suspect exited his car, identified himself as an officer and said that he stopped the driver for not using his turn signal.
The victim questioned the suspect about his credentials โthe suspect was wearing a jacket that said security โ and the suspect ran back to his car and fled.
The motorist was able to provide a tag number of the suspectโs vehicle.
Through further investigation, sheriffโs officers located the suspect, Tyler Lee Cole, 20, of Waldorf, at his home and placed him under arrest. Cole was intoxicated and disorderly. Officers learned he took the security jacket from an acquaintance.
Cole was charged with impersonating a police officer. PFC R. Gass investigated.
