4 motorcyclists killed as preventable roadway deaths continue statewide

GLEN BURNIE, Md. — The Maryland Department of Transportation and Maryland State Police continue urging motorists to Slow the Fast Down and drive safely during the busy summer travel season.
Safety Reminders
- Obey posted speed limits and slow down, especially in work zones.
- Move over for any vehicle with flashing lights, or slow down if you cannot safely change lanes.
- Avoid distractions while driving, including phones, passengers and anything that takes your attention off the road.
- Never drive impaired by alcohol or drugs.
- Wear your seat belt on every trip, in both the front and back seats.
- Share the road with pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcyclists.
- Look twice before changing lanes or turning, as motorcycles can be difficult to see.
- Avoid aggressive driving and allow plenty of time to reach your destination.
Fatal Crash Update
- 5 people were killed on Maryland roads between July 20-26, 2026.
- 33 people have died in July.
- 226 people have died on Maryland roadways in 2026, compared to 271 at this time in 2025.
