Winter is here! Snowflakes are pouring and I bet you are already thinking of skiing, camping, and having fun outside. But wait have you also heard of some mishaps during winter season? Well I bet you do. It is fun to play during winter, but importantly, one must know some winter survival tips to keep you, your friends and your family safe.

There is pertinent information that you need to know about winter sickness. Hypothermia is a state in which our body can no longer regulate and produce enough heat needed due to a cold stressor. It ranges from mild chills and shivering to coma and death. Hypothermia is defined as a core body temperature of less than 95 degrees Fahrenheit. There are several signs and symptoms that you must be aware of, these are: shivering, exhaustion, confusion, slurred speech, memory loss, fatigue and loss of motor control which causes your hands to fumble.   2. Better training is essential. Never go to a winter activity or winter camping if you don’t have proper training for winter precautions. Remember that the cold weather is tough there is no room to be arrogant.
  3. If you are camping alone or going any further from the campsite with your friends, do not rely on your footprints to guide you in return. It can be erased if heavy winter falls. You may use a certain mark such as pen marks or any writing object or you may place a sturdy object to help you find your way back home. As much as possible, do not go too far alone.
  4. Make sure to have enough fuel on your car and be careful of your keys. You car is your only lifeline to go back to civilization safely.
  5. Even if it’s cold, drink enough water. This will make you strong.
  6. Fatty foods are good source of heat. Make sure to bring them with you.
  7. Always bring emergency kit. Make sure to place all your necessary medicines.

Winter is absolutely fun. The only thing to avoid mishaps is to keep in mind the precautionary reminders mentioned above. Do not hinder your desire to play and have fun outside. As long as you know the basic winter survival tips, you don’t have to be afraid.
