HOLLYWOOD, Md. — Emergency crews rescued a 75-year-old man from the water Wednesday afternoon after a reported near-drowning in Hollywood.
The incident was dispatched at about 4:22 p.m. Aug. 26 in the area of 24000 block of Half Pone Point Road.
According to initial emergency radio traffic, the man reportedly fell into the water and could not get himself out. Callers initially reported that he was semiconscious but breathing, while a woman described over the radio as his mother remained in the water and helped hold him above the surface.
Chief 7 arrived on the scene, and responding crews began bringing an extension ladder and webbing rope to assist with the rescue.
Shortly afterward, crews reported that the man was out of the water. A responding rescue boat was then canceled.
Firefighters requested a rope, ladder and stretcher to assist with moving the patient from the area. EMS personnel were evaluating the man on the pier following the rescue.
Multiple fire, rescue and EMS units responded to the incident. The U.S. Coast Guard also was included in the initial response.
The patient’s condition and whether he was transported to a hospital have not been confirmed.
