LA PLATA, Md. — A new service aimed at helping seniors and family caregivers stay connected and independent has officially launched in Charles County. Magic Touch Companion Helping Hands, a Waldorf-based provider of nonmedical transportation and in-home tech assistance, celebrated its start with a ribbon-cutting hosted by the Charles County Chamber of Commerce.

The ribbon cutting took place on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2025, at the chamber’s Charles Street office in La Plata. Charles County Chamber President Kathy Guzman welcomed the business, congratulating its owner on joining the community and highlighting the chamber’s commitment to supporting services that improve the county’s quality of life. “Small businesses like Magic Touch will meet a real need in our community and help those who need it most,” Guzman said.

Magic Touch Companion Helping Hands is based in Waldorf and provides nonmedical support ranging from transportation to doctor’s appointments, church or religious services, grocery and pharmacy runs, and family visits or social outings.

The company’s services are designed with two groups in mind:

  • Seniors, who may need safe, respectful transportation, help with phones, tablets or email, and patient, face-to-face guidance.
  • Family caregivers, who often seek weekend help for aging parents, need a trustworthy local service, or want tech assistance for non-tech-savvy loved ones.

By focusing on both seniors and caregivers, Magic Touch aims to provide peace of mind while helping families stay connected and supported.

During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, speakers emphasized the importance of expanding support for older adults and family caregivers. One attendee remarked that it was encouraging to see a service designed to keep seniors independent and connected. Another noted, “We’re grateful for any business that not only fills a gap but does so with heart and compassion.”

Currently, Magic Touch services are available on Saturdays and Sundays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., with plans to expand hours and coverage into St. Mary’s and Calvert counties as demand grows.
