ANNAPOLIS, Md. — An Annapolis man initially investigated for illegal deer hunting is now facing more than 60 felony charges after investigators uncovered a large number of suspected explosive devices at his home.

On April 14, 2026, investigators with the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Fire/Arson & Explosives Investigative Bureau, working alongside the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the FBI, Anne Arundel County Police Department, and the Annapolis Fire Department, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 1200 block of Blackwalnut Lane.

The investigation led to the arrest of Lee Scott Wygal Ralston, 37, of Annapolis, who faces dozens of felony charges tied to destructive devices.

Investigators recovered a significant number of suspected explosive devices and materials used to construct them from the residence. The devices varied in size and composition, with some containing BBs, others equipped for remote detonation, and some utilizing homemade flash powder, according to charging documents.

Ralston has been charged with 32 counts of manufacturing a destructive device and 32 counts of possession of a destructive device, according to the fire marshal’s office. Court records show at least 64 felony charges were filed in connection with the case.

The investigation originated from a Maryland Natural Resources Police case involving alleged illegal deer hunting, including hunting at night and from roadways.

In addition to the devices, investigators seized multiple weapons, suppressors, and ammunition from the home. Additional criminal and natural resources charges are pending.

Ralston is currently being held without bond following a bail review hearing before Judge Laura M. Robinson in District Court.

A preliminary hearing is set for May 13, 2026, in Annapolis District Court.

Officials noted the case underscores the importance of coordination between local, state, and federal agencies in addressing potentially dangerous situations.

The investigation remains ongoing. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Anne Arundel County Fire Department’s Arson/Explosives tip line.
