LEONARDTOWN, Md. — A Leonardtown woman was arrested on an escape charge after authorities allege she failed to report to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center to begin serving an 18-month sentence.
Christina Lee Calero, 47, of Leonardtown, was charged with second-degree escape following the June 1, 2026, incident, according to charging documents.
The case began around 8:55 p.m. when a St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the detention center at 41880 Baldridge Street in Leonardtown for a reported escape.
Charging documents state Calero had been sentenced on May 15 to 18 months in the detention center by Judge Stanalonis. Under the sentence, Calero was ordered to report to the St. Mary’s County Detention and Rehabilitation Center by 5 p.m. on June 1 to begin serving her sentence.
Authorities allege Calero failed to report as ordered.
A statement of charges was filed June 2, and an arrest warrant was issued the same day by Judge William Donley. Court records show the warrant was served June 5.
Calero was initially held without bond following service of the warrant. Court records show she remained held without bond after a June 8 bond review before Judge James Tanavage.
A trial is set for July 28 in St. Mary’s County District Court.
