ANNAPOLIS, MD, May 8, 2017 – Southern Prince Georgeโ€™s County businessman Jesse Peed announced today his candidacy for the Legislative District 27 Senate seat currently held by Senate President Mike Miller.ย  He made the announcement in front of a small crowd at the Maryland State Board of Elections Office in Annapolis.

Peed is a life-long resident of southern Maryland and Prince Georgeโ€™s County, with the exception of 8 years during his own and his step-fatherโ€™s military service.ย  While he plans to remain here for life, Peed is concerned about policies that convinced his friends to move out of the state.ย  โ€œItโ€™s such a shame that people who have lived here for generations find it necessary to leave Maryland to have financial security in their retirement.โ€
ย

Peed comes to politics after raising his 4 children and building a business with Kathy, his wife of 32 years. He is the former chairman of the Prince Georgeโ€™s County Republican Central Committee on which he still serves.

โ€œAfter 30 years, Mike Miller is the longest serving Senate President in America.ย  His anti-business and anti-jobs policies have pushed enough Marylanders out of this state in his 46 years of legislating in the General Assembly.ย  Itโ€™s time to retire Mike Miller,โ€ says Peed, who adds, โ€œI will welcome his long-overdue retirement and look forward to serving the people of Calvert, Charles, and Prince Georgeโ€™s counties and the state of Maryland.โ€
