Eighty-one area 5th and 6th grade campers graduated from the 5th Annual St. Maryโs County CAMP D.A.R.E. program.ย CAMP D.A.R.E is a week-long, free summer day camp hosted by the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office in cooperation the St. Maryโs County Board of Education.ย ย
Certified D.A.R.E. instructors from the St. Maryโs County Sheriffโs Office and the Maryland National Guard Counter Drug Taskforce provided daily classroom instruction from the Drug Abuse Resistance Education, (D.A.R.E.) Elementary curriculum.ย The D.A.R.E. program seeks to educate students about the harmful effects of drugs, alcohol and involvement in violence.ย The program is designed to suggest alternatives and provide students with the tools they need to make healthy decisions to avoid drugs, alcohol, and violence.
In addition, campers participate in other fun and educational activities such as:ย arts and crafts, recreational competitions, and public safety related demonstrations and activities.ย Lunch was provided daily by the Mechanicsville Optimist Club.ย CAMP D.A.R.E would not be possible without the support of our local business and the community.ย We wish to thank the following businesses and organizations for their continued support to our youth:
