After nearly 30 years of service within the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, Julia S. Goins is retiring Dec. 31. During their Dec. 20 meeting, the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, along with officials from the sheriff’s office, saluted Goins for her work.
Goins began her career in 1982, which was before the sheriff’s office became Calvert’s primary law enforcement agency. She started as a clerk typist, working for the Calvert County Detention Center. Goins was promoted to secretary for the sheriff’s office in 1984. She subsequently held several other positions within the agency—criminal process technician, administrative secretary and administrative aide. Goins was promoted to her current position of executive administrative aide in 2002.
During her career Goins had five different bosses. Calvert’s current sheriff praised her work ethic and honesty. “She is so efficient,” said Sheriff Mike Evans [R]. “She would be quick to say you’ve done something wrong.”
“She’s an absolute wealth of knowledge,” said Assistant Sheriff Col. Tom Hejl, who added Goins helped both Evans and himself with the “learning curve” after Evans was elected sheriff in 2002.
“She very quietly does her job competently,” said Commissioner Susan Shaw [R].
