Former NFL player and University of Maryland graduate LaMont Jordan brought a message of safety to a youth football team in St. Maryโs County over the weekend. Jordan attended the Homecoming Parade Friday and Homecoming Game Saturday for the Mechanicsville Braves as part of a program called Heads Up Football, sponsored by the NFL and USA Football.
The program, funded by a $1.5 million grant from the NFL Foundation, was announced during this yearโs Draft Week. It has five core elements:

ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Coaching certification;
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Player safety
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Concussion education and
ยทย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย Proper equipment fitting
The program was launched in three markets last year and is expected to reach more than 2,700 youth leagues in all 50 states this year.
