UPDATE – August 26: Gokhan Donald Ihlan Oztas, 25, was released from jail today after being charged with Failing to Stop at a Red Traffic Signal before a Right Turn, Driving, Attempting to Drive While Impared by Alcohol, and Driving, Attempting to Drive Under the Influence. No word on the date of Oztas’ court case.
At approximately 7:50 p.m. on Monday, August 24 at the intersection of Great Mills Road and Three Notch Road, emergency first responders from Lexington Park and Bay District responded to an accident involving a Chevrolet Cavalier and a Chevy Suburban.
According to witness reports, the driver of the Cavalier traveling eastbound on Great Mills Road came to the intersection at Three Notch Road and continued through the intersection, turning south and ran into the Suburban.
Additional witness reports stated that the driver was placed into custody and proceded to bang his head against the police car window and make faces at media and those watching the incident. The female passenger of the Cavalier was believed to be intoxicated and unable to communicate to authorities her name or address.
One passenger of the Suburban was injured and transported to the hospital. The accident is under investigation at this time and charges are pending. The driver of the Cavalier has been identified as Gokhan Donald Ihlan Oztas, 25.
