POINT LOOKOUT, Md. — The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office is currently on scene at Point Lookout State Park.
Today, June 24, 2026 around 3:00pm as a precaution, police are asking people to leave the park, and the park will be closed while deputies conduct a welfare check involving an individual who may be in possession of a handgun.
Additional law enforcement and public safety partners are assisting with the response.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area until further notice. If you have any information, witnessed any suspicious activity at the park today, or have information that may assist investigators, please call the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office at 301-475-8008.
Call 911 immediately if you observe an emergency situation.
